Gubner, Yvonne L., of Clearwater, Florida, died Thursday, January 10th, at home, surrounded by her family and under the care of Visiting Angels of Pinellas County and Suncoast Hospice. She was 88 years old.
Born on September 17th, 1924, in Calgary, Alberta, Yvonne graduated from the University of Washington and received a Master's degree in Psychiatric Nursing form Columbia University. She retired from her nursing career to marry the late Dr. Richard Gubner. Yvonne and Dr. Gubner raised their three children, Judy, Richard, and Debbie, in Sands Point on Long Island, New York.
In the early 1950's, the Gubners purchased a controlling interest in the Safety Harbor Spa. Over the following years, the Gubners became active members of the Safety Harbor, Clearwater, and Tampa communities. They were among the founders of the Richard Baumgartner Center and Ruth Eckerd Hall. Yvonne was also very active in The Clearwater Library, The Girls Club of Safety Harbor, The Fine Arts Society, the National Society of Arts and Letters, and in a wide range of other community activities.
Yvonne's leadership skills and philanthropic nature were well recognized in our community, as was her passion for world travel. Her beauty and her kindness were cherished and will be remembered by all who knew her.
Yvonne is survived by her three children and their families, and by her brother, Dr. William Luke, and his family. Funeral services will be held at 1 pm Sunday Jan. 13 at Sylvan Abby Funeral Home in Clearwater, Florida
