(Long Island, N.Y.) Death rates from melanoma skin cancer are on the rise among men, and the number of diagnoses of melanoma annually, for both men and women is increasing, according to a report from the Melanoma Research Foundation.

Despite the progress made in the fight against cancer, skin cancer accounts for more than 3.5 million new cases a year, and men over 50 are more than twice as likely to die from it, due to more sun exposure, fewer visits to the doctor, and less education and awareness than women.? With melanoma deaths on the rise, education is critical in prevention and early detention of the disease.
