Changes to LEED certification will change the way project teams think, integrate, plan, execute and operate their buildings, according to experts.

At a workshop hosted by CoreNet Global NYC providing an overview of the upcoming changes to LEED v4, the U.S. Green Building Council?s Melissa Gallagher-Rogers said the changes will have ?the biggest impact on CO2 emissions of any version of the rating systems and take an unprecedented stand on human health.?

Gallagher-Rogers added that the USGBC is looking for pilot projects for the new system, and those participating will receive hands-on support to help them earn project certification.

Tiffany Broyles Yost, director of programs at the Urban Green Council, said her organization supports and interacts with the New York City real estate market and its professionals. She also discussed the impact LEED v4 will have on the urban environment and reviewed the ?Greener, Greater Buildings Plan,? highlighting what its changes mean for real estate professionals and tenants throughout New York City.

The Related Companies? sustainability manager, Luke Falk, offered a developer?s perspective, discussing the potential benefits and challenges of the changes.

Falk shared how the LEED rating system has better enabled Related to invest in higher quality buildings.
