Katherine Jenkins uses Twitter to deny David Beckham affair

WELSH opera singer Katherine Jenkins has posted a series of messages on her Twitter account to deny internet rumours that she had an affair with David Beckham, sending the social networking site into something close to meltdown.

She posted five messages in quick succession on Friday lunchtime. She began by telling her 225,000 followers: "I've read some horrible rumours on here & want u 2 know I absolutely deny I?ve had an affair with David Beckham."

Her tone turned slightly more menacing as she added: "The rumours are very hurtful, untrue & my lawyers tell me actionable."

The next three messages explained the details of her relationship with the footballer. "I've only met David twice: once at the Military Awards in 2010 & on a night out in the West End in Feb 2012," she said. "We were out in a group of friends & it was just a normal fun evening out... Just so we are clear I have never been on my own with him and never arranged to meet up."

In February the singer was seen in the same club as Beckham and tabloid man-of-the-moment Prince Harry. They left separately but it appears that the sighting may have got tongues wagging.

However, the rumours never made it into the mainstream media and many tweeters were moved to remark on the fact they were not aware of the story until Jenkins denied it.

She may have been moved to act after pictures of a fake magazine cover, claiming that Beckham and his wife Victoria had split up, began doing the rounds online. The Daily Telegraph reported that other Twitter users circulated an "unfounded rumour that the alleged affair was covered by a superinjunction".

Jenkins, a 32-year-old mezzo-soprano from Neath, split with her fiance Gethin Jones last year. They had been due to marry this summer. She has since been based in LA and appeared in the Amercian show Dancing with the Stars and is now rumoured to be dating dancer Derek Hough.???
