Being a fellow Brit, the one question l would like to ask him is why is Ford making what the market is buying in this segment of the market RWD great handling Ford cars.
Ford's Mondeo sales have slumped massively in the UK in this class of car, the Cortina/Taunus was not not just the best seller in its class, it was the best selling car in Europe for a number of years, where did it go so horribly wrong for Ford?
We used to by nearly 200,000 RWD Cortina's in the UK in the last few years as it faced the axe, last year the Mondeo sold just 20,000, my question is where did it all go horribly wrong for Ford in the UK?
Just had a look at 2012 Europe's Q1 sales numbers and the mass produced Mondeo fails abysmally, it's beaten by all the low volume quality car makers, they would never have sold a small fraction of Cortina/Taunus sales in the past.
European Car Sales Q1 2012 (Sales chart position/sales)
1. RWD Cortina/Taunus (This is where the Mondeo's Grandad lived in the charts)
16. RWD Mercedes Benz Class 43,323
24. RWD BMW 3 Series 37,402
28. RWD BMW 5 Series 31,961
36. RWD Mercedes Benz E Class 28,422
38. FWD Mercedes Benz B Class 28,433
54. FWD Ford Mondeo 20,855
Where did it all go horribly wrong for Ford?
Gotta say l would love to ask Brit Chris Hamilton the one question, what is the one big thing he thought Ford could to do to stop the mundane Mondeo rot from slipping down the sales chart every year, get rid of the dull anodyne look or add a RWD platform to share with Lincoln to make it more exciting fun to drive again?
Would love to buy a new RWD car from the Blue oval as l do love the Ford Mo Co, but all you get is Hobsons Choice "No Choice" from Ford of Europe, and to be honest l would never buy a no fun to drive FWD Mondeo not in a million years. Come on Ford Lincoln should be making the "Best handling cars in the world" not RWD
