Francis J. Monteverdi, age 87 years old, passed away on February 22, 2012. Francis was born in Hollis, New York, on October 21, 1924 to Francis and Gertrude Monteverdi. He is survived by his wife of 30 years Ruth Monteverdi; son, Peter and his wife, Katherine; grandchildren, Andrew and Sarah; twin brother, John Monteverdi; nieces, Gina and husband, James Donaldson; Sheila and husband, Daniel Becker and nephews, John Monteverdi and wife, Lori; Frank Erik Monteverdi and wife, Ana, many grandnieces, grandnephews and many friends. As a 19 year old infantryman, he participated in the morning assault wave on Omaha Beach, Normandy on D-Day. He was taken prisoner four days later and sent to Meltheuer Prison Camp, where he spent 11 months. He was repatriated in May 1945. He received many medals for his bravery. Frank received his BA from University of New Mexico and his law degree from St. John's University in New York. He worked for the office of the District Attorney in New York City and later for various Federal Agencies. A Memorial Service will be held at St. Paul Lutheran Church, 1100 Indian School Road N.E., on Thursday, March 1, 2012 at 2:00 p.m. with Pastor Patricia Holman officiating. There will be a brief reception after the service. He will be interred at the National Cemetery in Santa Fe, New Mexico at a later date.
