Doctors, nutritionists and many people without any scientific background have written books on dieting.
There is no list on Google giving the number of books published on dieting, but I approximate that number in the thousands.
Why?
People are lazy and fat and they want an easy way of losing their fat. They look for an authoritative source who has written a book which seems to make weight loss effortless.
THE 100 YEAR DIET is not about weight loss.
Please keep that in mind.
THE 100 YEAR DIET is about consuming food in such a way that your health is optimized.
By ?Optimized? I mean that you have the best health possible for your genetic structure and your age and your current health.
THE 100 YEAR DIET is not intended as a weight loss diet. It is intended as a life style diet that is pleasant and easy to use, but produces an improvement in your health, and, hopefully, your longevity.
In the process of using THE 100 YEAR DIET, you should attain the weight that is the best for your health.
You may gain weight if you are underweight, and you may lose weight, if you are overweight.
Following THE 100 YEAR DIET is easy if you understand the principles and the reasoning for consuming the foods and supplements in the diet.
For this reason, it is absolutely imperative that you understand the following principles and their rationale.
I will attempt to make that understanding as easy as possible, but I encourage the reader to research each principle, every statement and arrive at a state of understanding and agreement with my reasoning. This is essential for the motivation of the reader to adhere to the Diet.
THE 100 YEAR DIET is an eclectic diet that has been taken from medical studies, but I believe that it was in use by mankind prior to the development of civilization.
THE PRINCIPLES
Human beings are social animals that have evolved over millions of years.
Their evolution was MULTI-CENTRIC.
By ?Multi-Centric? I mean that different groups of human beings evolved in different areas of the planet.
Although the original common ancestor of all animals was the same, as Primates evolved they began to change genetically in different
parts of the globe.
The term ?Race? was once used for these differing groups, but politically this term became ostracized and it has been replaced with terms such as ?Ethnic Groups.?
I will use the term ?Ethnic Group? but this term will relate to the genomic makeup of the group and the tendency of that group to develop specialized diseases if they eat the wrong foods, and especially if they eat the wrong quantity of food.
Humans are like machines made by different manufacturers. Their outward appearance may be grossly similar, but internally they are markedly different.
You must make yourself aware of which ethnic group you belong to so that you consume food that is best for you.
Medical science has studied Ethnic Groups intensely and we realize that each group has its own health problems, and also, its major strengths.
THE PRE-CIVILIZED DIET
It is totally rational to follow a diet that corresponds to your genetic endowment.
That genetic endowment was placed in all your cells thousands of years ago. It has been changing constantly, but very slowly. Our bodies are constructed almost identically to the way they were constructed about ten thousand years ago.
Therefore, we should eat a diet that is as close to possible as the diet our ancestrors ate ten thousand years ago.
But, remember, there were many different Ethnic Groups at that period of time. Some lived on islands and some in the center of continents. It is crucial for you to determine who were your ancestors in order that you can follow, as closely as possible, the diet of your ancestors.
As an example, Africans had very little salt for their food, unless they lived on the coast.
Today, people with African genetics are very sensitive to salt. Their blood pressure rises quickly if they consume too much salt.
These are the problems which you as the dieter are compelled to research.
There are many ways to conduct this research from the Internet to complete genetic testing.
Many astute doctors are getting total genetic testing to determine what foods they should avoid.
Dr. Sanjay Gupta, famous CNN doctor/reporter is one of them.
We can conclude that we should know who we are and what our ancestors ate in order to arrive at our own personalized diet.
WHAT DID OUR ANCESTORS EAT?
Before we get into the details of what our ancestors eat, we should examine how much was their caloric intake.
How much food did they eat?
Without question, we can say they ate very little.
Our ancestors followed a Caloric Restriction Diet out of necessity.
And, they could not, out of necessity, follow an OPTIMAL NUTRITION diet since they had no knowledge of what it was nor the tools to get those food elements.
Our ancestors lived from ?Hand to Mouth.?
Their tools consisted of stone knives and spears and a few other simple implements.
Their major and most important tool was their brain.
From my research, I can say that most of our ancestors were much more intelligent than any group on the planet today.
Humans survived in jungles and forests, in the Arctic and in desserts?with no wings, no claws, no fangs and none of the specialized skills of other animals.
They could not run as fast as a cheetah or climb a tree like a money or squirrel.
They had to plan their future. They had to work in groups. The ?Loner? died in the struggle of the thousands of competing organisms who had no supreme predator.
Gradually, humans developed techniques for survival. Their birthrate had to be extremely high because of the high death rate due to trauma and infection.
And yet we find human remains across the planet.
There are artifacts in caves which are hundreds of thousands of years old.
We find that they had talent to paint pictures and carve statues and make pottery in the middle of the most demanding environment of the history of this planet.
For these reasons, I have to conclude that our ancestors were brilliant people.
Some ancestors lived in areas where food was very abundant? vegetables, fruit and and animals were everywhere. In these
warm and rich locations it was not necessary to struggle too hard to stay alive.
But in the harsh Northern Climates of the world, life was intensely demanding.
Only the most talented humans could survive in this environment. Their food consisted mostly of meat, since plant life was little due to the short summer season.
People who have descended from these groups should look to meat as a larger part of their diet.
RAW VERSUS COOKED
Initially, hundreds of thousands of years ago, our ancestors ate totally raw food. As a consequence, many developed infections with the parasites in the meat or contracted bacterial infections from the uncooked vegetables.
When useful fire was brought into the living area, humans began to cook their food and found that they had less disease and death.
I do not recommend eating raw food unless you are absolutely certain that it is not infected and not debased by the aging process.
Although there might be a slight amount of beneficial nutrients in raw food, our ancestors recognized early that cooking was the preferable way of changing food for consumption.
QUANTITY OF FOOD
Caloric Restriction (CR). Science has discovered that CR brings about better health and longer life expectancy.
By reducing the quantity of food by approximately forty percent, starting at any age, CR produces these remarkable changes.
The reasons for CR benefits are extremely complex, and will be reviewed in a later chapter.
Needless to say, CR will cause you or any animal, to lose weight if obesity is present.
SUMMARY
There are three basic principles to THE 100 YEAR DIET.
They are quite simple.
1. Eat the food that your ancestors ate when your genes were last changed.
2. Eat that quantity of food that is restricted by approximately forty percent below what would normally be consumed.
3. Eat foods that have Optimal Nutrition.
