Kell Brook takes on Hector Saldivia overlooking a fight with Timothy Bradley ? Boxing News
It seems like nobody is interested in fighting the current WBO welterweight titlist Timothy Bradley. First, it was Filipino fight sensation Manny Pacquiao who declined a rematch against Bradley, believing he has already defeated the American, even though their first encounter ended in a controversial split decision victory for Bradley. Now, it is Kell Brook who has overlooked a fight against Bradley and has instead opted for a fight against Hector Saldivia for the number one contender position for the IBF welterweight title.
The fight between Brook and Saldivia will be held at the Motorpoint Arena in Sheffield on October 20.
According to Brook, he had to make a choice between Hector and Bradley, and he went for Hector believing it was the better route to take.
?The Bradley fight was put in front of me but I believe the mandatory position in the IBF is the right move,? said Brook. Eddie has worked hard to get me into this position and providing I beat Saldivia, I?ll be fighting for a world title at the start of 2013 and it will be on my terms.?
?I would love that to be in Sheffield too and I know Eddie would do his best to get it here as it would be an amazing event. I will also be watching Ricky Hatton?s comeback with great interest as a fight against him next year would be an absolute blockbuster for British boxing.?
On the other hand, Brook?s promoter Eddie Hearn revealed that they started the journey with a goal in mind, which was to be the number one contender for the IBF title. He added that since they are just one win away, they do not want to shift their routes. He admitted that a fight against Bradley was a confidence booster for Brook but it was not in their list and so they had to decline it.
It seems like Bradley has not yet received the respect of an unbeaten fighter and a champion. For some reason, fighters do not want to fight him, even though he is one of the best fighters in the welterweight division right now.
