On President and Ms. Obama historic trip to Africa, White House photographer Pete Souza was by their side capturing in magnificent photographs the journey. The President traveled to Senegal, South Africa and Tanzania. Their visit combined the urgency of now with the needed lessons of the past.
In Senegal, they visited the departure point from where slaves started their nightmare journey to new lands. In South Africa, the Presidential First Family saw the cell that held international hero President Nelson Mandela for near two decades. In Tanzania, he was wildly welcomed by young and old alike.
Here are some of my favorite photographs. You can see more and their descriptions by going to the White House web site.
